Dementia Care Consultation

There are always support groups and classes available on caring for a loved one with dementia.  But what happens after they pass away? Survivor Trauma happens and you may be asking yourself questions like:

  • Did I do enough?
  • Could I have done more
  • Could they have lived longer if I did things differently or “better”?
  • Did they know that I tried?
  • Did they know that I did my best?
  • Did they know that I loved them?
  • Is it ok to be relieved that they are gone?
  • Would they be angry if they knew I felt that way?

I have worked in the field of aging for over 20 years and more specifically in dementia care. I have helped families navigate through advance care planning, challenging family dynamics, communication and challenging behaviors with the person they care for.  I have also worked with them on their feelings of grief and guilt and survivor trauma.

I am available for telephone and video consultations nationwide, and also for in-person consultations in the Denver and Boulder metro area. I offer a free initial consultation, which lasts about an hour, to see if we click and to be sure you feel like I will be able to help you in some way. If we decide to meet again, we can talk about pricing and package plans ranging from $65 an hour to $75 an hour.

I also have extensive experience in Advanced Care Planning, coaching and training, communication strategies and mediation, and self care for the caregiver. I am an expert in these other topics and offer consulting services for the following as well:

  • Advanced Care planning
  • Looking into options – home care and companionship, transportation, finding the right doctor, assisted living, nursing homes, memory care
  • Financial and Legal Planning
  • Involving the other family members – with realistic expectations
  • Family mediation sessions
  • Communication with the doctors, what to expect, what not to expect
  • Communication with the person with the diagnosis
  • Communication with neighbors and friends
  • Communication with other family members
  • Self-care – what does that really mean?
  • Asking for help – very specific help
  • Seeking Therapy

“Cara has been an invaluable resource both in her knowledge and expertise in navigating resources available for PLwD and their care partners. Where Cara truly stands out is how she advocates for not only the client but the family as well, checking in regularly to see how things are going. She is personable and relates easily to all of our family members and offers meaningful, actionable and appropriate ideas for continuing care and education . Beyond being a wonderful support for families, it is obvious that she truly enjoys the interactions she has with clients and has tremendous capabilities when it comes to recognizing when new and/or different interventions are warranted. She truly cares about their well being and understands how to connect with them in meaningful and comforting ways. I would highly recommend her as someone who can assist in guiding families through this journey.”
